Filtering Opportunities

I work at La Casa and Sterling Library. I’m also a member of the Spring Fling Committee and I’m the assistant stage manager for the freshmen show. I’m fully responsible for the student income contribution. I’ve received a full ride from Yale based off my parent’s income. Yale determined that my family cannot contribute towards my education costs, but they still expect me to fulfill the full student income contribution alone. I would love to go abroad to study, but I can’t make my mom work more to support me since I won’t be able to work. I have to work two jobs to meet the contribution. The money I’m making isn’t always going towards the contribution. I have to pay for supplies, books, and other necessities. I’m working to survive here on campus, which is why I have to work even more over the summer. A lot of my time is spent working and I’m not able to participate in other activities. I also have to send money back home to help support my parents. I find myself filtering opportunities by monetary compensation because I need money. I think Yale should eliminate the contribution. It doesn’t make sense that only low-income students who already have to work to survive have to fulfill the student income contribution while people not on financial aid aren’t responsible at all.
