The Privilege to Partake

The organization that finances my education stipulates that I can’t be publicly vocal with my peers about certain issues that are important to me. It’s not fair to be deprived of this ideological choice based on my socioeconomic status, even though that’s my reality at Yale. I’ve met people who have expressed a sense of recklessness and impunity because they pay full tuition.
While I came from a decent high school, other students who were in First-year Scholars at Yale (FSY) came from schools that were inadequate at preparing them for the rigor of college, let alone Yale. Having a student income contribution takes away time that could be put towards catching up with our peers who came from better backgrounds or participating in activities in which we never had the privilege to partake. Without the SIC, Yale would be better for people of all financial backgrounds
