Universal Opportunity? Not So Much.

Yale has great resources and many opportunities for its students, but I strongly believe that it can do better. I find myself working most of the time, not because I enjoy working but because I need the money. Money that isn’t for personal expenses but rather for textbooks, travel expenses, and the student income contribution. I find my friends having fun or relaxing after classes while I have to run between two jobs. I’m also a part of a sorority and it definitely needs more socioeconomic diversity. Many times students do not rush because of financial barriers, and that is in no way fair. As Nicholas Kristof has said, “Talent is universal; opportunity is not.”
